POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:               PROGRAM ADVISOR                               Part-time Position
                                    VSC Grade 10          
                                    This position is exempt from the Bargaining Units.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
To serve as an advisor to student run organizations on campus.  To provide guidance and assistance to the development of student leadership skills and opportunities.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as a resource person and/or advisor to campus student organizations.  Provide student organizations with a wide range of information and assistance in developing leadership, organizational, political, and planning skills (e.g., workshops, manuals, one-on-one counseling).
  • Develop intentional learning expectations for organizations and assess the results.
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a wide range of student activities, programs, and services.
  • Develop and modify programs and services in accordance with student interests and institutional objectives.
  • Administer an operating budget in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Plan and administer departmental records systems and prepare administrative reports.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of major campus programs as assigned (e.g., Activities Fair, Homecoming, Awards Day, Special Weekends, Commencement).
  • Confer regularly with other Student Life and college personnel to plan, coordinate, and evaluate programs and policies, exchange information, resolve problems, and the like.
  • Serve on various College committees.
  • Keep abreast of current developments in higher education student activities programs.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field, plus two years of relevant administrative experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Strong interest in and enthusiasm for working with students.  Knowledge of higher education student activities programs.  Good program planning, organizational, administrative, and budget-management skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of College students, staff, and administrators.
  • Good counseling/advising skills.  Good public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends.

SALARY:  Position will consist of 20 weeks per semester.  $18.93 per hour for this
29-hour/week position.  There are no fringe benefits provided with this position.
